The Saint Patrick Breakfast

Saint Patrick Breakfasts are designed to bring people and local communities together.

Their aim is to create ongoing, enjoyable contexts in which those from differing backgrounds and traditions can meet, enjoy one another's company and build new friendships. In addition, those attending have the opportunity to be inspired by those working in the areas of poverty, justice and reconciliation and join together in prayer for their local & national communities.

At these breakfasts, we meet together, not under the banner of one particular denomination or another, but simply under the banner of Patrick and the ancient message of love, forgiveness and reconciliation he proclaimed. Those of all faiths, and none, are equally welcome to attend.

Local Saint Patrick Breakfasts, held on the morning of, or leading up to, Saint Patrick’s Day, are enjoyable community events held wherever there is a Saint Patrick’s Day parade and seeking to fulfil the aims listed above. Our own Maynooth breakfast is held every two years.

It is also our hope that there will one day be an All-island Saint Patrick Breakfast, held on the first Thursday of March each year. This would be a prestigious gathering of national and international leaders sponsored (hopefully) by members of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Irish Oireachtas; and would include invited local and national leaders from around the world. It would alternate between Belfast and Dublin

“If separation is the seed of conflict then

reconciliation begins with the simple act of

meeting together.”
